India vs West Indies 1st Test: Virender Sehwag Hails Prithvi Shaw After Maiden Test Ton

Former Team India great Virender Sehwag heaped praises on Prithvi Shaw and congratulated the 18-year-old on scoring his maiden Test century in his debut Test against the Windies in Rajkot today. The little boy looked in ominous touch from the outset and ended up scoring his maiden Test ton in his maiden innings.

It was a special knock from a player who is destined for greatness. He has a flair quite similar to a Virender Sehwag. However, he has a sound technique also unlike Virender Sehwag.

Taking to his twitter handle, Sehwag praised Prithvi and said that the youngster has a lot of guts and determination. “It’s been the Shaw show. Congratulations Prithvi Shaw, abhi toh bas shuruaat hai , ladke mein bahut dum hai #IndvWI,” Sehwag wrote.

Prithvi named in the Playing XI for the opening Test ahead of the start of the match and he made full use of his opportunity. Courtesy his knock he has more or less cemented his spot for the tour of Australia. In all likelihood, he will be the first choice opener alongwith KL Rahul.

Prithvi Shaw was in ease during his debut Test knock

The latter will keep his place after playing a sensational knock against England in the final Test. Prithvi looked in complete control of proceedings and was hardly troubled by any of the bowlers. Barring an attempted square cut, everything came from the middle of his bat. He treated Devendra Bishoo with utter disdain and smashed him all around the park en route to 134.

His century came in 99 deliveries and it was also the 3^rd fastest century on a Test debut. The list is headed by Shikhar Dhawan who was replaced with Prithvi Shaw in the Test team. The 18-year-old never looked overawed with the fact that this is Test cricket. He slog-swept Bishoo on quite a few occasions and connected quite nicely.

He was eventually dismissed by Bishoo on 134. It was a soft dismissal to say the least especially for a batsman who had already spent so much time in the middle. He wanted to close the face of the bat but ended up giving an easy catch to the bowler.
