Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa said that many felt India was given the ODI World Cup 2023 on a platter, adding that it seemed like only a miracle could stop them from winning. Adam Zampa expressed satisfaction in defeating the Indian team in front of a packed crowd in the world's largest stadium.

Australia, led by Pat Cummins, had beaten the Indian team in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The visiting team restricted the Men in Blue to 240 runs after winning the toss. Australia successfully chased down the target with seven overs and six wickets in hand.

To Beat India In India In Front Of That Man People - Adam Zampa

Speaking on The Final Word cricket podcast, Adam Zampa said India was almost guaranteed to win the World Cup last year. Also, Zampa stated that they were happy to restrict India to 240 runs. He added that Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne brought the team to a winning position after three early wickets.

"Yeah, I think looking back on that World Cup, I feel like and I reckon a lot of other people probably feel like India were given the World Cup basically on a platter, and it was like something miraculous had to happen for anyone else to win it.

"120,000 Indians, and as I said, it just felt like it was there for India to take. And the satisfaction of walking off the ground and having them only get 240, it was like, alright, is this possible? And then the whole emotion of being three down, the ball swinging and nipping everywhere, it was a difficult innings to watch, but as soon as Hedy and Marnus locked in, it was honestly so satisfying. And to beat India in India in front of that many people, I don't think that you can ever beat that feeling."

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave a flying start to the Indian team in the final match. He scored 47 runs off 31 deliveries, including four boundaries and three sixes. However, Glenn Maxwell dismissed him in the final over of the power play. The home team struggled to put pressure on opposition bowlers in the game.

Adam Zampa's Record In Indian Premier League

Adam Zampa made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2016. The legspinner delivered impressive figures of 6/19 against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in his maiden season. He was not a regular in the team and played just five matches that IPL season.

Notably, the veteran spinner played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the 2021 season. Zampa represented the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2023 season. However, he pulled out of the IPL 2024 season due to personal reasons. He has taken 21 wickets in 14 IPL matches at an economy rate of 7.74.
