India Women Praised By Fans On X As They Win Historic Gold Medal At Asian Games 2023

Fans on X erupted in joy after the India Women thumped the Sri Lanka Women’s national team in the final of the Asian Games 2023. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side achieved the historic feat as they won the gold medal in the championship. 

In what was a difficult pitch to play, India women batted first and it was a resilient effort from their end. Batting was quite difficult on the pitch but Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues made sure that they settled in and got as many runs as they could. 

India lost star opener Shafali Varma (9) early. However, after that Mandhana (46) and Rodrigues (42) added crucial 73 runs for the second wicket. It was a torrid time for Indian women after that as they lost wickets in clusters and could manage just 116 runs. For Sri Lanka Women, Udeshika Prabodhani was the pick of the bowlers as she picked 2 wickets and gave away just 16 runs. 

Titas Sadhu gave India a dream start as she picked three wickets early and left Sri Lanka Women tottering at 14/3. However, after that Nilakshi de Silva (23) and Hasini Perera (25) gave the opposition a real scare as they batted beautifully. Oshadi Ranasinghe (19) made a vital contribution as well and it seemed the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side would lose. 

Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad along with Deepti Sharma held their nerves well and picked wickets to bring India back into the game. A combined bowling effort led by Titas Sadhu saw them restricting Sri Lanka to just 98 runs and winning the game by the margin of 19 runs and lifting the gold medal.
