India Women's cricket team will have a sports psychologist during the training for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. It is believed to be a huge step by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who are focusing on the team's ability to handle pressure situations.

India Women have reached closer to several ICC tournaments before but haven't been able to cross the line so far. They reached the final of the Women's T20 World Cup in 2020 and the semi-final of the tournament in 2022 but lost to Australia on both occasions.

In the Commonwealth Games 2022, India reached the gold medal match but faltered under pressure as they lost to Australia again. In all the matches mentioned, India were in a dominant position at one stage but the pressure of a big match resulted in a flurry of wickets.

As a result, the BCCI has arranged a sports psychologist in order to conduct sessions for the team during the training camp, reported ESPNCricinfo. Harmanpreet Kaur, the India captain, has been repeatedly asking the board to help players open up on their challenges and work towards playing under pressure and mental fatigue.

Almost all of India Women's players, apart from the ones involved in the Women's Hundred and the Women's CPL, will assemble in Bengaluru for a fitness and conditioning camp in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to prepare for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

Indian players involved in foreign T20 leagues

The India Women's team is not scheduled to play any international match between now and the start of the Women's T20 World Cup. Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, and Jemimah Rodrigues have commitments in the various leagues around the world.

India's repeated failures in the important knockout matches have been a thing of disappointment for the team as well as for the fans. India have also reached the final of the ODI World Cup on two occasions, in 2005 and 2017, but lost on both occasions.

On both occasions, Mithali Raj was India's captain. In 2017, India Women lost the match to England Women by just 9 runs after dominating for most part of the match.

Shreyanka Patil likely to be fit before Women's T20 World Cup 2024

In a huge relief, India's all-rounder Shreyanka Patil is reported to be back on track to be fit before the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. She will take part in the conditioning camp before the tournament.

Patil suffered a finger injury during the Women's Asia Cup in July. Yastika Bhatia is likely to continue her rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the posterior cruciate ligament injury in her left knee.

Bhatia's absence was felt in the Women's Asia Cup where India tried several D Hemalatha and Uma Chetry at the No. 3 spot. Bhatia can also provide the wicketkeeping option and is a capable top-order batter as well. Her last T20I was on India's tour of Bangladesh in April 2024.
