India recently concluded the ICC T20 World Cup campaign, winning their third title on the 8th of March 2026. The break between the end of the T20 World Cup and the start of the IPL 2026 is already very short, and it will be cut further short with the earlier training sessions starting around two weeks ahead of the beginning of the tournament.

BCCI to honour victorious Indian captains in 'NAMAN' ceremony
The BCCI will be honouring the successful Indian captains who led their teams to triumph in respective ICC events over the past few years. These awards would be presented particularly to the five Indian captains, who include two female and three male cricketers.
India have been almost invincible in the ICC tournaments. Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, started off with a win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and since then, India have been unbeatable. They won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, the ICC Women's ODI World Cup in 2025, the Women's U19 World Cup in 2025, the Men's U19 World Cup in 2026, and now the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
All five victorious captains, including the veterans Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Suryakumar Yadav, will be honoured alongside the two youngsters of Indian cricket, Ayush Mhatre and Niki Prasad.
Overseas players' return to IPL delayed over crisis in the Middle East
Alongside Indian players, several overseas cricketers will also arrive in India to be part of the upcoming IPL season. However, their return to the subcontinent might be delayed due to their stalled return to their nation after the ICC T20 World Cup.
The gap, which was already remarkably short, was further cut down due to the crisis in the Middle East and the teams facing several logistical as well as travelling challenges. Likely, West Indies and South African players are the ones who are acutely subjected to the massive problem.
However, several other overseas players, like the Kiwis and the English, who played in the semi-finals and the finals, also returned home not more than three weeks before the start of the IPL. With the rise of more franchise-level tournaments, the commitments of cricketers are increasing towards the sport.
