Indian politician and Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray has slammed the ICC chairman, Jay Shah, for hosting ICC finals only at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venues were announced yesterday, and the final was scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad.

Recently, the ICC Chairman announced the schedule for the upcoming T20 World Cup, and India will be the official co-hosts, alongside being the defending champions of the contest. The Shiv Sena MLA went on to criticize the ICC for selecting Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium as the venue for the T20 World Cup final.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), Arun Jaitley Stadium (New Delhi), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), Eden Gardens (Kolkata), R Premadasa Stadium (Colombo), Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground (Colombo), and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (Kandy) round out the full list of host venues.

Aaditya Thackeray questions hosting of ICC finals in Ahmedabad

Through his X handle, Aaditya Thackeray questioned the ICC for not having chosen the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as a possible venue for the T20 World Cup final, especially after it had special significance for having hosted the 2011 ICC World Cup Final.

"So the T20 World Cup fixture is out. Guess where the Final is scheduled? Ahmedabad. What's this fascination of pulling every single final there? Has this been a traditional cricket venue?" he asked.

"Why not Mumbai? Wankhede will be the absolute best venue for a T20 World Cup final. Remember 2011?" Thackeray further raised questions.

India’s full schedule:

India vs USA (Mumbai) - February 7

India vs Namibia (Delhi) - February 12

India vs Pakistan (Colombo) - February 15

India vs Netherlands (Ahmedabad) - February 18

"Expecting the @ICC not to indulge in politics and favouritism," said the young Indian politician

The Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA further highlighted the fact that the new stadium in Ahmedabad had already hosted the 2023 ICC World Cup, which India lost to the Australian side.

"Expecting the @ICC not to indulge in politics and favouritism. Likewise, Eden Gardens- Kolkata, MA Chidambaram Stadium- Chennai, IS Bindra- Mohali... all of these are good to host the T20 World Cup Finals...But due to this sudden politics of favouritism, we face injustice," Aaditya Thackeray said.

However, the sole reason for ICC to consider the ground as a possible venue was the grandeur of the Narendra Modi Stadium and it being the stadium with the largest seating capacity. After its inauguration, the Narendra Modi Stadium went on to be the largest cricket venue in the world, surpassing the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

Rohit Sharma was named the Brand Ambassador for the ICC

The ICC event recently took place yesterday, which announced the schedule for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka. The event in which it was announced was presided over by ICC Chairman Jay Shah.

In the meeting, he shared the stage with the former T20 World Cup-winning skipper Rohit Sharma, who has recently been announced as the ICC Brand Ambassador. Alongside them were India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and women's captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
