Will Rohit Sharma play against the Gujarat Titans for the next IPL 2026 match of the Mumbai Indians (GT vs MI)? This has been a question among MI fans, as Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Because of the injury, Sharma missed the MI vs Punjab Kings match as well. For the next match, Gujarat will face the Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But will Sharma play? According to an Indian Express report, the opener is likely to travel to the venue with the team. But whether the 38-year-old will play remains under wraps.

Will Rohit Sharma play vs GT?

"The Indian Express understands that the 38-year-old will be travelling to Narendra Modi Stadium much earlier with the team to assess his fitness. Any hamstring scare takes a player a minimum of eight days to recover fully and the chances of him playing today remain bleak," the report stated.

Ahead of the match, it was widely reported that Rohit Sharma spent a significant amount of time in the nets, working on his batting. In the pre-match press conference, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Paras Mhambrey shared some crucial updates on both Sharma and their New Zealand international spin bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner. Like Sharma, the Kiwi spinner also has some fitness concerns ahead of the Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians match.

MI batting coach shared some updates on Rohit Sharma

Mhambrey claimed that Rohit, the former skipper, under whose captaincy the Mumbai Indians claimed 5 IPL titles, had net sessions ahead of the match where he looked good.

"Both are fit. In fact, if you are just walking by the nets out here, if you just look at Rohit’s batting. So yeah, he is working on it. Santner is fit. So, unfortunately, we missed him (Santner) in the last game, picked up a bug. Not something that we could do. But both are fit, yeah," the MI coach said.

Even before the Punjab Kings match, the star opener was spotted in the nets, batting, but eventually missed the match. In place of Rohit Sharma, MI named Quinton de Kock as his replacement to open the innings along with Ryan Rickelton. At the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya informed that the former skipper could miss one or two matches because of the hamstring issue.

The Mumbai Indians never defeated the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad before

It is worth noting that the Mumbai-based franchise, which has a tremendous success rate in the league, has never been able to beat the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Currently, MI is at the bottom-most position of the IPL 2026 points table. In such a situation, they will have to defend GT to better their position in thé points table. Without Rohit Sharma in the playing combination, this could be more challenging for the team.
