The odds for the Indian Premier League make for interesting reading as the IPL auction approaches at speed.
The deadline for IPL sides to finalise their list of retained players is October 31, meaning there is little time between now and the public finding out who will be entering the auction.
With so much to wrap up between now and the start of the competition, much will likely change, but the early odds have been set by leading betting site Picklebet.
KL Rahul is rumoured to be one such player that could potentially enter the IPL auction, with the Lucknow Super Giants captain just one of the star names that could be up for grabs.
With much to be decided, the Mumbai Indians arrive as the current favourites to win the competition in 2025. They are closely followed by the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in what is shaping up to be one of the tightest IPL seasons yet.
Latest IPL Winner Odds From Picklebet
- Mumbai Indians – 5.60
- Chennai Super Kings – 6.60
- Kolkata Knight Riders – 7.00
- Royal Challengers Bangalore – 7.60
- Rajasthan Royals – 9.00
- Sunrisers Hyderabad – 9.00
- Lucknow Super Giants – 10.00
- Delhi Capitals – 10.00
- Gujarat Titans – 11.00
- Punjab Kings – 13.00
The 2025 IPL looks to be a year in which many of the sides that underachieved in 2024 find a way to bounce back at the first time of asking.
Indeed, last season’s bottom side the Mumbai Indians are currently favoured to win the competition at 5.60.
MI could only muster four wins in 14 attempts in 2024 as they finished with eight points, 12 short of Kolkata Knight Riders at the summit.
Similarly, the Chennai Super Kings endured a tough season as they finished in fifth, missing out on the playoffs via their inferior net run rate.
Their woes in the competition in 2024 saw them fail to build on securing the trophy in 2023 as they notched a record-equalling fifth title.
The Knight Riders, who arrive as the reigning champions, are available at 7.00. While they are right behind MI and CSK, it is still incredibly interesting to see that a side that won nine of their 14 in the regular season in 2024 are not currently at the head of the betting.
Clearly, winning the competition five times - as CSK and MI have - counts for more than arriving as the reigning champion.
The likes of the Royal Challengers (7.60) and Rajasthan Royals (9.00) are available at odds below 10.00, but they seem to so often promise so much and yet struggle to deliver when it counts.
In fact, RR were supreme in the early stages of the competition in 2024 before their form fell off a cliff heading towards the playoffs.
Meanwhile, RCB are one of four sides never to have won the tournament, while RR’s only triumph came in the first iteration of the competition back in 2008.
It has been a long time underachieving for the pair, and most will question whether the odds are worth what has continued to be a big risk in backing them.
The fortunes of the rest will likely hinge on how they start the competition. A slow start in which wins are tough to come by invariably lead onto poor performances and defeat, with this quickly seeing a side eliminated from contention for a playoff spot.
The Punjab Kings are the longest shot at 13.00, and they actually feel far too short. Two appearances in the playoffs across their 17 seasons is a woeful record. It is made even more worrying when considering the Gujarat Titans have played in three campaigns and made the playoffs as many times as the Kings.
The IPL auction will change the landscape in the betting massively as we edge towards the competition. Big money moves, shock exits and statement retentions will happen as each side looks to find the winning formula by tweaking their squads.
The start of the campaign in March 2025 is someway off, and the odds will shorten and drift as the mega-money IPL auction edges closer.
Will the Mumbai Indias still be at the top of the pecking order in the betting at the start of the season, or will another side become the side to back?
