With Rahul Dravid reportedly not willing to continue as Team India’s head coach, the future of other members of the support staff is up in the air.

Dravid was appointed on a two-year contract in 2021 by the BCCI. The contract recently expired after India’s campaign in the World Cup came to an end. The contract of the other coaches expired after the World Cup as well.

While few reports stated that the BCCI might hand Dravid a contract extension after the team’s impressive display in the World Cup, the former India captain is himself not willing to accept any extension. And with Dravid all but confirmed to part ways with Team India, there is no clarity over whether the other members of the support staff will continue or not, according to the Times of India.

Vikram Rathour was serving as Team India’s batting coach, Paras Mhambrey was the bowling coach whole T Dilip was the fielding coach. While the BCCI could still give the support staff a contract extension, it is highly unlikely as an incoming head coach usually brings his own set of coaches.

VVS Laxman likely to replace Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach:

The report also stated that Rahul Dravid could be replaced by his former teammate VVS Laxman as Team India’s new head coach. Laxman is presently serving as the head of the National Cricket Academy and will also ply his trade as the interim head coach of Team India for the five-match T20I series against Australia, starting on Thursday (November 23).

The former India batsman was also the interim coach when India toured New Zealand last year for a T20I series right after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. He also replaced Dravid as the coach for the Ireland tour and the Asian Games earlier this year. Laxman is likely to be confirmed as the new head coach of the team before the challenging tour of South Africa.
