India's 15-Member Squad Announced For WTC Final 2021

The BCCI on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for Team India for the World Test Championship final. The final will be played between June 18-22 at Southampton. Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant both have been included in the squad. The selection committee has named a five-man pace attack with Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj both being a part of it along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohamed Shami, and Umesh Yadav.

As per reports, the pitch for the final is expected to have decent pace, carry and bounce. Thus Team India’s playing XI selection will be an interesting observation.

The WTC final is an opportunity for Shubman Gill to show his class and play an innings of substance. the selectors have kept the faith in him. He played a few good knocks in the Australia tour to win the faith of the selectors for the big final. Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rohit Sharma form India’s batting core for the WTC final. Hanuma Vihari has also been added to the squad.

The BCCI took to Twitter to announce India’s 15-member squad for the WTC final. It is a well-balanced squad with good depth in both batting and bowling line-up. Skipper Kohli has enough options to choose from to figure out his best possible playing XI.

Two spinners in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have been added to India’s WTC final squad. Ashwin has picked up 67 wickets and has a chance to finish the tournament as the highest wicket-taker. Ravindra Jadeja has been invaluable too.

The Indian team played an intra-squad practice game as a build-up for the big final. The likes of Pant and Gill scored important runs in that game besides the senior players finding some form as well.

Team India heads into the final as the number two team in the ICC Test rankings. New Zealand after their Test series win over England have topped the points table.

The WTC final between India and New Zealand is a rematch in many ways of the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal. Both India and New Zealand played some fantastic cricket to get to the final. New Zealand beat teams like India, West Indies, and Pakistan to reach the finals.

They became the first team to reach the final after Australia postponed their tour to South Africa over COVID-19 concerns.
India, on the other hand, beat teams like Australia and England after losing the Test series against New Zealand to start their WTC campaign.
