Indian Cricket Team has been under the scanner for a while. The prime reason behind that has been their inability to win the ICC title since 2013. The recent loss in the ICC World Test Championship Final has worsened things more and calls have been there to make a complete transition in the team.

BCCI since February has been without a chief selector since Chetan Sharma resigned from the post following his sting operation, in which he revealed inside news of the team. The governing body recently invited applications for the post and the speculations have rifled up that Ajit Agarkar is the front-runner to become the selector.

Here’s India’s New-Look Test Squad If Ajit Agarkar Becomes Chief Selector

Openers – Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran

The new-look Indian side under Ajit Agarkar might see skipper Rohit Sharma making way for youngsters. Not because of the form, but age won’t be in his favour as the next final of the ICC World Test Championship is scheduled to take place in 2025 and it’s unlikely that he will play all the games till then. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been scoring truckloads of runs in the domestic format is likely to be given a nod ahead.

Shubman Gill, who is touted as the prince of Indian cricket, no doubt has locked the opening spot in the team. He has proven his worth for the team in all three formats and now doubt he’s the future of the team. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who also has been a consistent performer in the Tests, is expected to be the third opener in the team.

Middle Order – Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Ishan Kishan (wk)

The middle order for India in Tests under Ajit Agarkar is likely to see some fresh faces. Ruturaj Gaikwad Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan and Ishan Kishan are strong candidates to form the core in the longest format of the game for India in the upcoming years.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been one of the most talked about youngsters in the domestic circuit, is expected to be slotted at No.3 followed by Virat Kohli at No.4. The senior batter might get Test captaincy back as he’s arguably the best Test skipper of India and with youngsters in the team, he might get the responsibility back. There has been a lot of debate about Sarfaraz Khan not getting an Indian call-up in Tests. However, the talks might end as Ajit Agarkar might make way for him.

Sarfaraz Khan has been scoring truckloads of runs in the domestic circuit and has an average of around 80 in the FC. He’s expected to bat at No.5. Ishan Kishan is also likely to be there as keeper in the team till the time Rishabh Pant comes back. KS Bharat hasn’t been impressive in the opportunities he got. Therefore it is likely that Kishan will make it into the team.

All-rounders – Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are currently the best all-rounders going in Test cricket and it’s fair to say that they will be there in the Indian team for a long. Jadeja has played some famous knocks for India with the bat both at home as well as overseas whereas with the ball he has changed the game in a short span of time.

On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin is currently the No.1 Test bowler going in World cricket and has rattled batting lineups of opposition. With the bat, he’s no mug at all as he has five Test centuries as well. Both players together have achieved laurels for India and are expected to play the role in the coming years.

Pacers – Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Jaydev Unadkat

The pace department in the Tests is unlikely to see some fresh faces. Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Jaydev Unadkat are expected to be the three frontline pacers in the team. Mukesh Kumar is also likely to be in the team in place of Umesh Yadav whereas Arshdeep Singh is also likely to be drafted into the team as he has been playing county cricket.
