Which left-handed batter Rohit Sharma was referring to?

While it was not clear which left-handed batter Rohit was referring to, it was possibly Rachin Ravindra. New Zealand played with 3 left-handed batters in their top seven, Tom Latham, Devon Conway, and Rachin Ravindra.

While Latham had a disappointing match with low scores in both innings, Conway scored a brilliant 91 in the first inning. However, Rachin Ravindra had a fantastic Test match as he scored a magnificent hundred in the first innings.

Ravindra scored a classy innings of 134 off 157 balls in the first innings which included 13 fours and 4 sixes. The left-hander scored an unbeaten 39 off 46 balls in the second innings and ensured to take New Zealand past the finish line.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma did not have a great match with the bat despite a half-century in the second innings. Rohit registered scores of 2 and 52 across both the innings.

New Zealand takes a 1-0 lead in the series

Ravindra was adjudged Player of the Match for his performance as New Zealand stunned India by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. India were dismissed for just 46 in the first innings which ultimately proved to be the turning point in the match.

New Zealand smashed 402 in reply, thus taking a mammoth first innings lead of 356 runs. India fought hard and their batters showed immense resilience. Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant played excellent knocks with the former hitting a maiden Test hundred.

However, a middle-order collapse meant the game slipped away from the hosts. With two more Tests to go, the visitors will be aiming to create history.

On the other hand, India will be looking to stage a comeback in the next Test at Pune. Rohit Sharma and his men will be expected to come hard in the next two Tests at the visiting team.
