India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma has revealed whether they would be doing the postmortem of the squad after an embarrassing Test series defeat against the New Zealand National Cricket Team at home.

India lost the second Test against the Black Caps by 113 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. With the second Test defeat, they also lost the home Test series with one match still remaining.

New Zealand Stunned India In First Two Test Matches

New Zealand entered the Test series against India on the back of a humiliating series defeat against Sri Lanka. India were the clear favorites for the Test series, but the underdogs stunned Rohit Sharma & Co. and breached the fortress.

Notably, India were on a dominant 18-series winning streak in home Tests and the Kiwis ended it with their first-ever Test series win in India. Also, it was after over a decade that India lost a Test series at home as their previous home series defeat had come against England in 2012-13 season.

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir came under fire after the loss and were heavily criticized by fans and experts. India have already faced 4 defeats in Test cricket at home under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, which is the joint second-most for an Indian captain.

I don’t want to do any postmortem - Rohit Sharma

Speaking at the post-match press conference, India National Cricket Team captain Rohit highlighted India's dominant run on home soil and added that he won't look too much into the recent defeat at the hands of the Kiwis.

“It has happened in the last two Test matches, we’ve won 18 consecutive series at home which means we’ve done a lot of things right. We’ve performed well exceptionally over the past number of years. Hence, I won’t go too much deep into it and that we’ve messed up a lot.

"I think 2-3 innings we’ve underperformed with the bat but it happens when you’re performing consistently for so long, you come under a loss,” said Rohit at the post-match press conference.

Rohit Sharma added that he won't be doing the postmortem of the team because he doesn't doubt the potential of the players present in the squad.

“I don’t want to doubt anyone’s potential. These guys have helped us remain unbeaten at home for so long, and hence, I don’t want to do any postmortem. But we can see what we can do to come out of such situations and batters should come out with trust in their plan. New Zealand batters also showed that if you put bowlers under pressure things will happen in your favour,” he added.

I thought it was a pitch where not much was happening - Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was also asked if the New Zealand batters were allowed to post a bit too many runs on the board in the first innings (259). Replying to this, the Indian skipper said that they managed to restrict the Black Caps to a decent score and it's just the failure of the Indian batters that cost them the match.

"Look, to be honest, when they started off, they were 200 odd for three, and for us to come back and restrict them to 259, was great. I thought it was a pitch where not much was happening, we just did not bat well enough. Had we gotten closer to the first innings, things would have been different but New Zealand played better."

Rohit Sharma also sent a message to his teammates to chin up and prepare for a better showing in the final Test match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He said:

"We want to show up at Wankhede and win that Test. Not thinking too far ahead. It is important that we focus on our next game and what better we can do as a unit, because it is a collective failure."
