IPL 2020 Dates Cannot Be Confirmed At The Moment: Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju

The fate of IPL 2020 still hangs in the balance with chances of the tournament being held in October if the much in speculation 2020 T20 World Cup gets postponed to next year. The cricket board has postponed the IPL 2020 indefinitely for now with the ‘wait and watch’ policy being adapted.
As per the guidelines for lockdown 4.0, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has allowed stadiums and sports complexes to open. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) have also formed SOP for different disciplines to resume training in phased manner. However, there is no clearance on the IPL 202 yet.

Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju has said that health is of foremost importance at the moment and it cannot be risked due to sporting events. He also said that the government will have to work a way to get things back to normal and no dates can be confirmed for IPL 2020 at the moment.
“In India, the government has to take a call and it will take a call depending on the situation. We cannot put health at risk just because we want to have a sporting event,” Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju was quoted as saying by India Today.
“Our focus is fighting Covid-19 and at the same time we will have to work a mechanism to get back to normalcy. It is difficult to confirm dates but I am sure we will have some kind of sporting events this year,” he added.
BCCI CEO Rahul Johri had said that there are plans of holding the IPL 2020 with Indian and overseas players this monsoon.
