Rajasthan Royals will play their first match of IPL 2021 against Punjab Kings on April 12, 2021. In the previous season IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals had a very poor show. The team finished on the last 8th spot on the points table. As a result, the franchisee dropped skipper Steve Smith from the team and promoted Sanju Samson as the new skipper.

Along with Steve Smith, Rajasthan Royals also released Akash Singh, Anirudha Joshi, Ankit Rajpoot, Oshane Thomas, Shashank Singh, Tom Curran, and Varun Aaron from the team.
