IPL 2021 is all set to entertain Indian cricket fans from next month. The much-awaited domestic cricket T20 tournament will kickstart with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9, 2021. While Mumbai Indians are the defending champions of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bangalore eye to win their first IPL trophy.

During IPL 2016, AB de Villiers hit an unbeaten 129-run knock which consisted of 12 sixes. This innings holds the 5th rank in most sixes hit during an innings. De Villiers hit the knock while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in a match against Gujarat Lions. De Villiers also hit 10 boundaries during his innings and took just 52 deliveries to score 129 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 248/3 due to De Villiers’ amazing knock and won the match by 144 runs.

Chris Gayle’s innings of 117-run off 57 balls in IPL 2015 holds the 4th spot in the list of most sixes in an innings by a batsman. The West Indies batsman hit 12 sixes and 7 boundaries for his knock. The match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With Gayle’s blistering knock, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 226/3 in 20 overs and won the match by 138 runs in the end.

Chris Gayle also holds the 3rd rank in hitting most sixes in an innings. In IPL 2012, the West Indies batsman hit 13 sixes while playing for RCB. The left-handed batsman Chris Gayle hit 128 runs in just 62 balls, which also comprised 7 boundaries. The match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils. Gayle remained not out at his score of 128 and RCB scored 215-1 while batting first. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 21 runs.

Brendon McCullum holds the 2nd rank in the list of hitting most sixes in an innings. Brendon McCullum’s historic knock of 158 runs in the first-ever IPL match in IPL 2008 witnessed him hitting 13 sixes. The former New Zealand skipper also hit 10 boundaries in the match and just played 73 deliveries to reach 158 runs. With Brendon McCullum’s brilliant knock, his team Kolkata Knight Riders reached 222/3 in 20 overs and won the match by 140 runs.

Chris Gayle- 17 Sixes

Chris Gayle’s spectacular knock of unbeaten 175 runs in IPL 2013 holds the record of most number of sixes by a batsman in an inning. The knock, which is also the highest-ever individual knock in IPL, observed Gayle hitting record 17 sixes. The match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors. Gayle also hit 13 boundaries in the match and just played 66 balls for his 175 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 263/5 in 20 overs which is the highest team total in IPL. RCB won the match by 130 runs.
