Delhi Capitals bought eight players in IPL 2021 auction after spending Rs. 11.25 crore during the event. Delhi Capitals was the second-most successful team in the previous edition after Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals ended up as runner-up in IPL 2020 after losing the final game to Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets.

Ahead of the auction, Delhi Capitals retained 19 players in their squad. On the other hand, the franchisee bid goodbye to 6 players. Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharm, and Jason Roy were the 6 players which Delhi Capitals released from their squad.

In IPL 2021 auction, Delhi Capitals managed to pick a few big names like Tom Curran, Steve Smith, and Sam Billings. English cricketer Tom Curran was DC’s costliest buy at Rs. 5.25 crore. He was followed by Aussie star Steve Smith at Rs. 2.2 crore. Umesh Yadav also moved into Delhi Capitals at Rs. 1 crore price. Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala and M Siddharth were bought for Rs. 20 lakh each.

Delhi Capitals now consist of 25 players out of which there are 8 overseas players and 17 domestic players. Shreyas Iyer is Delhi Capitals’ skipper and the team has risen up as much stronger over the years under his captaincy. Last year, he led the team in all the 17 games that Delhi Capitals played. At the middle-order position, the right-handed batsman Iyer is a dependable batsman.

Last year in IPL 2020, he was the 4th most leading run-scorer overall and 2nd most for Delhi Capitals. He scored 519 runs in 17 games with three half-centuries. In IPL 2021, Shreyas Iyer will again lead the team in every game and he will be one DC player who will be on the field in every match.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is the core of Delhi Capitals’ bowling department at present. The South-African pacer was phenomenal in the last edition. He earned the purple cap after bagging 30 wickets in 17 games. Due to Rabada’s magical bowling in IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals kept him as a permanent overseas player in every game they played. This time too, Kagiso Rabada is expected to play every game for Delhi Capitals.

Steve Smith has joined Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 auction. With Rs. 2.2 crore price, Steve Smith came out as a very good deal for Delhi Capitals in the mini-auction. Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals in the previous edition. In IPL 2020, he played all the 14 games for Rajasthan Royals- scoring 311 runs in 14 games. The Australia batsman Steve Smith is among the top batsmen in international cricket. Delhi Capitals will surely keep him on the field in every game in IPL 2021.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Post-IPL 2020 tournament, Ravichandran Ashwin starred in the recent Border-Gavaskar 2020-21 Trophy and ongoing India vs England Test series 2021. Being a tall wrist-spinner, Ashwin can turn the game with his magical bowling.

The right-arm spinner is a very dominating bowler who often confuses batsmen with his variations. In last edition of IPL, he played 15 games for Delhi Capitals, grabbing 13 wickets at an economy of 7.66. Ashwin’s economical bowling in T20 games comes as a huge advantage for the team. He can also lend a hand while batting. Therefore, Ashwin will be one player whom Delhi Capitals will feature in every match of IPL 2021.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has earned most limelight as the wicket-keeper in Indian cricket after the retirement of MS Dhoni. His brilliant batting and astonishing wicket-keeping skills in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 and the ongoing India vs England Test series 2021 have made him the most promising wicket-keeper batsman for India at present. In IPL 2020, Pant played 14 games for Delhi capitals scoring 343 runs.

Recently, the left-handed batsman Pant has garnered a lot of appreciation from Indian cricket fans due to his brilliant performance in the national team. In IPL 2021, he will find a permanent place behind the stumps for Delhi Capitals due to his amazing form.
