Delhi Capitals finished as runner-up in IPL 2020 and they will arrive with a lot of confidence in IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals bought 8 players in IPL 2021 auction. One of Delhi Capitals’ crucial deals was buying Steve Smith as the franchisee was able to buy the cricketer for Rs. 2.2 crore.

Delhi Capitals also bought Tom Curran for Rs. 5.25 crore and wicket-keeper Sam Billings for Rs. 2 crore. Umesh Yadav also found a space in Delhi Capitals’ squad after the latter bought him for Rs. 1 crore. Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala, and M Siddharth were bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs. 20 lakh each.

Few Delhi Capitals players were among the top run-getter in the last season. With Steve Smith in the squad, Delhi Capitals will be able to strengthen their batting sector in IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals have top-class batsmen in their squad and here we will talk about five players who can be the top run-scorer for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: 5 Players Who Can Be The Top Scorer For Delhi Capitals (DC)

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan was the leading run-scorer for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. He was the only batsman to hit two centuries in the tournament. With 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries in IPL 2020, Dhawan smashed 618 runs for Delhi Capitals in 17 games. He was the second leading run-scorer in the tournament with 618 runs. The left-handed batsman Dhawan can again replicate his magical batting in IPL 2021 and hence, he might turn up as the leading run-getter for Delhi Capitals once again.

Shreyas Iyer

As a skipper, Shreyas Iyer performed his batting duty efficiently for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019 with 519 runs in 17 games. He scored three fifties in the tournament with the highest knock of unbeaten 88 runs. The right-handed batsman was second most run-scorer for Delhi Capitals and 4th most overall. In IPL 2021, he will again don the role of skipper for Delhi Capitals. He is another top contender to score maximum runs for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.

Rishabh Pant

With his hard-hitting ability, Rishabh Pant always registers himself among the top run-scorers in IPL tournaments. Pant was the second leading run-scorer in IPL 2018 and the 7th most in IPL 2019. In IPL 2020, he lost his position among the leading run-scorers. However, since he batted at lower order during the tournament and Shikhar Dhawan played brilliantly as an opener, Pant could play fewer overs in IPL 2020.

Recently, Rishabh Pant has grabbed the limelight with his amazing performance in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 and the ongoing India vs England Test series. With his amazing batting form at present, he is expected to showcase his batting attack in IPL 2021 too. Therefore, he can be the leading run-scorer for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.

Marcus Stoinis

In IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals experimented with promoting Marcus Stoinis as an opener in the last two games after Prithvi Shaw failed to provide a great start to Delhi Capitals. Marcus Stoinis played few quick knocks for Delhi Capitals in the tournament due to which the team decided to try him at the top spot.

In IPL 2020 final, he lost his wicket scoring a run but was successful at the opening spot in Qualifier 2 game where he managed an 86-run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan.

In 17 innings in IPL 2020, Stoinis scored 352 runs for Delhi Capitals at a strike rate of 148+. His quick batting in the death overs helped Delhi Capitals to raise their run-rate in few games. If Delhi Capitals promotes Marcus Stoinis as an opener in IPL 2021, he might turn out as the leading run-scorer for the team.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith is Delhi Capitals’ one big deal in IPL 2021 auction. The franchisee was able to buy the Australia batsman for Rs. 2.2 crore, after other franchisees, did not show any interest in buying the cricketer.

Steve Smith is a fabulous batsman and he would have been quite surprised after Rajasthan Royals dropped him ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Now all set to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021, Smith might go big with his bat in the tournament and come out as the leading run-getter for Delhi Capitals.
