England white-ball captain and Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan has said that the addition of veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will further bolster their spin-department in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Harbhajan Singh, who has represented the likes of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in the past 13 years on the IPL, was picked by the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 IPL auction at his base price of Rs 2 Crore.

“I think adding Harbhajan to our squad has strengthened our spin department. If you look at our spin department, on paper it is one of the best in the tournament and that is factual. We have to play in Chennai and it can turn there, it can raise the eyebrows of our spinners there. If we do well in the tournament, our spinners would have bowled well.” said Eoin Morgan as quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh, who will be entering his 23rd season as a professional cricketer after having made his debut way back in 1998, has said that he has got nothing to prove to anyone and that he will be looking to enjoy his stint.

“Lot of people think ‘Bhai yeh kyun khel raha hain?’ Arrey bhai yeh unki soch hai, meri naahi. Meri soch hai ki main abhi khel sakta hoon, toh main khelunga (People think ‘why is he playing’ but that’s your opinion. From where I see myself, I want to play and I will play),” Harbhajan told PTI.

“I have got nothing to prove to anyone. My intention is to play well, enjoy my stint out there in the middle and playing cricket still gives me that satisfaction. I have set a standard for myself and if I don’t meet that, I don’t need anyone else but I will blame myself. I need to ask myself, did I put in the optimum effort that was required,” he added.

Harbhajan Singh, who missed the last season of the IPL due to family reasons, has claimed 150 wickets in 160 games at an average of 26.45 and an economy rate of 7.05. He has also been a part of four IPL-winning campaigns- thrice for the Mumbai Indians and once for Chennai Super Kings.
