Sunrisers Hyderabad, along with Kolkata Knight Riders, had the least salary cap available in IPL 2021 auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained most of their crucial players ahead of IPL 2021 auction. The IPL 2016 winners SRH had an available salary cap of Rs. 10.75 crore during IPL 2021 auction. The franchisee bought three players during the event spending Rs. 3.8 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had just one overseas spot left and they went for Mujeeb-ur-Rahman to fill the spot. The David Warner-led franchisee spent Rs. 1.5 crore to buy the Afghanistan cricketer. With his addition to the team, Sunrisers Hyderabad has Afghanistan duo Rashid Khan and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman to lead the spin bowling attack.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also bought Kedar Jadhav at his base price of Rs. 2 crore. Kedar Jadhav was released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the auction. Jagadeesha Suchith was the third pick for Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 30 lakh.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been a very consistent team in the last few tournaments. After winning the trophy in 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad has qualified for the playoffs in the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 edition. This might be the reason why the owners retained most of their leading players for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
Sunrisers Hyderabad retained David Warner, Abhishek Sharma, Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan, Vijay Shankar, Wriddhiman Saha, Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder and Abdul Samad ahead of the auction. The five players which Sunrisers Hyderabad released were Billy Stanlake, Sandeep Bavanaka, Fabian Allen, Sanjay Yadav and Prithviraj Yarra.
