IPL 2021 Auction: Twitter Reacts As Krishnappa Gowtham Becomes The Most Expensive Indian Uncapped Player In IPL History

Records continue to tumble at the IPL 2021 Auction with Karnataka’s spin-bowling all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham becoming the most expensive buy as far as uncapped Indian players are concerned.

Gowtham, who was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2021 Auction, had set a base price of Rs 20 Lakh for himself, but the all-rounder insinuated a furious bidding war among Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings at the auction table.

Initially, it was Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad, who got involved in a bidding war for Krishnappa Gowtham, taking his prize from Rs 20 Lakh to a whopping Rs 7.25 Crore.

KKR eventually made way for Chennai Super Kings in the bidding war, who eventually claimed the all-rounder’s services for a staggering amount of Rs 9.25 Crores.

As a result, Krishnappa Gowtham has broken Krunal Pandya’s record of being the most expensive uncapped Indian player bought on the auction table. Krunal Pandya was bought for Rs 8.80 Crore in the 2018 auction by the Mumbai Indians.

Speaking of Krishnappa Gowtham’s IPL numbers, the all-rounder has played in 24 games, in which he has managed 13 wickets at an average of 43.23 and 186 runs with the bat at an average of 14.31 and a strike-rate of 169.09.
