IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings Squad For 14th Edition

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) arrived at IPL 2021 auction with Rs. 22.90 crore budget in their hands. Chennai Super Kings or CSK, the team which has lifted the IPL trophy three times, spent Rs. 20.35 crore to purchase six players in their team during IPL 2021 auction. CSK bought Indian all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham for Rs. 9.25 crore- who became their biggest buy-in IPL 2021 auction. CSK now comprises 24 players for IPL 2021.

The MS Dhoni-led team had released six players ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh and Shane Watson were the six players CSK decided to part ways with. The 18 players which Chennai Super Kings retained in the squad were MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood and R Sai Kishore.

In the auction, Chennai Super Kings could induct a maximum of 7 players in their squad. A franchisee needs to have a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players in their squad, according to BCCI rules. Out of these, a franchisee can only pick a maximum of 8 overseas players in the squad, while there is no bar for a minimum limit.

Ahead of the auction, the men-in-yellow already had 7 overseas players in their retained squad. Hence, they could only deal for one more overseas player in IPL 2021 auction. The 2018 IPL winners CSK bought English spinner Moeen Ali for Rs. 7 crore, who became their only overseas player bought in IPL 2021 auction.

CSK also bought Cheteshwar Pujara for Rs. 50 lakh. K.Bhagath Varma, C Hari Nishaanth and M. Harisankar Reddy were the other three players CSK purchased during the auction. CSK bought these three players at their base price of Rs. 20 lakh.
