IPL 2021: Current Situation Not Easy For Kolkata Knight Riders; It's Imperative To Take Care Of Dressing Room Environment, Says Deep Dasgupta

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has said that the current situation is not easy for Kolkata Knight Riders and management should take care of the dressing room’s environment. Dasgupta’s words come after Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their 4^th straight loss in IPL 2021.

Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets after scoring just 133-9 batting first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In spite of a batting-friendly pitch, KKR could not manage a good total in the match while batting.

Kolkata Knight Riders batted at a very slow rate since the start, managing just 25 runs in the mandatory powerplay of 6 overs. Rahul Tripathi was the highest run-scorer for the team with 36 off 26 balls.

However, no batsman could really bag enough runs for Kolkata Knight Riders in the match. Chris Morris’ 4 wicket-haul for 23 runs also arrived as a big disaster for KKR’s batting.

Current Situation Not Easy For KKR: Deep Dasgupta

While speaking to Sports Today, Deep Dasgupta said that the current situation is not easy for Kolkata Knight Riders as they are facing a low confidence level after 4 consecutive defeats.

“Their body language tells you the confidence level which is obviously low when you have lost 4 games on the bounce it can be high. The missed catches, misfields just tells you that they need a pick me up. This current situation is not easy for them,” Deep Dasgupta said.  

The former Indian cricketer also said that it is important for the management to take care of the dressing room environment so that players are in better mental space.

“You can understand what they are going through and that’s why it is imperative that the dressing room environment is looked into so that they are happy, not too worried, making sure that they are in a better mental space,” Deep Dasgupta further said.

However, Deep Dasgupta also said that Kolkata Knight Riders are still very much in the race for the title in spite of 4 defeats.

“The tournament is far from over, they need to win quite a few from here on, but they are very much in the race. It’s way too early to lose heart, and I’m sure they won’t lose heart. They are a good side and have the experience as well,” he further said.

Kolkata Knight Riders started their IPL 2021 journey with a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs. However, the Eoin Morgan-led side later lost to Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals. With 4 defeats in 5 games, KKR have dropped to the last spot in the points table.
