On Monday (12th April) night, when Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their journey in the IPL 2021, Caribbean cricket superstar Chris Gayle created a new history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) most sixes as he became the first batsman to hit 350 IPL sixes.
Before this fourth match of the IPL 2021, Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle already hit 349 IPL sixes in 131 IPL innings. So, the left-handed batsman was just one six away to reach this amazing milestone.
While PBKS batted first in this match after losing the toss, Gayle came to bat at the no.3 position after the opener Mayank Agarwal (14) lost his wicket in the third over of the match. Another opener and PBKS skipper KL Rahul and Gayle set the 67 runs partnership for the second wicket where Gayle scored 40 off 28 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes) before Riyan Parag took his wicket.
During that knock, Gayle was the first six-hitter in the game as he smashed a sixer to Ben Stokes over the deep midwicket in the eighth over and completed his 350 sixes in IPL history. In the next over, Gayle hit another over-boundary to Rahul Tewatia as he has hit 351 IPL sixes after this latest innings.
Other names in the list of top five most sixes in IPL history
In the list of most sixes in IPL history, Chris Gayle is way ahead of the others as no other batsmen have managed to hit even 250 IPL sixes yet.
South African cricketer AB de Villiers is in the second position in the list of most IPL sixes as the right-handed batsman has smashed 237 IPL sixes.
Former successful Indian captain MS Dhoni is in the third position in the list of most IPL sixes as the wicket-keeper batsman has hit 216 sixes in his IPL career. Rohit Sharma is very close to Dhoni in the fight for most IPL sixes as an Indian batsman as the right-handed batsman has already managed to hit 214 IPL sixes.
Present Indian captain Virat Kohli is the only other batsman with 200 IPL sixes but this list will soon become lengthier as three more active batsmen have already smashed 195 or more IPL sixes. Talking about Kohli, he has already hit 201 IPL sixes.
