Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has reckoned that one of the most interesting battles to watch out for in the forthcoming IPL will be between two Indian superstars- Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli and Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
The 14th edition of the Indian Premer League will kick off on Friday when defending champions Mumbai Indians lock horns with Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
While Virat Kohli is coming off brilliant white-ball series against England, Jasprit Bumrah will be making a comeback after a break that he had taken to marry sports presenter Sanjana Ganeshan.
“The contest to watch out for, I mean the box-office contest which you will pay to watch is the best vs best and that is Bumrah vs Kohli. Kohli is coming in good form while Bumrah is coming after a break,” said Aakash Chopra on his official Youtube channel.
“Kohli will be opening the batting and Bumrah will be in front of him with the new ball. It is an interesting contest because Bumrah has managed to get under the skin of Kohli,” he said.
Jasprit Bumrah has got the better of his Indian skipper with the short ball in the past.
In fact, Bumrah’s maiden IPL scalp as well as his 100th wicket in the cash-rich league has come in the form of Virat Kohli.
“As soon as Kohli comes to bat, the (Mumbai Indians) captain Rohit gives Bumrah the ball and he bowls bouncers and has got him out two-three times while playing the pull shot,” said Chopra.
”Generally, Virat does not get out like that, he keeps his ego aside. But against Bumrah he has tried to hit him and got out while playing a bad shot. So, that’s the contest I am looking forward to watch,” Aakash Chopra added.
