Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his bowling for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 so far and called him the ‘Brahmastra’ of his team. The former India batsman Sehwag also said that as long as Mumbai Indians have Jasprit Bumrah, they are unbeatable. Sehwag words came after right-arm pacer Bumrah bowled with a brilliant economy in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled 4 overs in the match and conceded only 14 runs while taking 1 wicket. Bumrah also bowled a brilliant 17th over while giving just 4 runs. Bumrah’s economical bowling was very crucial for Mumbai Indians while defending a low total of 150. Sunrisers Hyderabad were bowled out for 137, losing the match by 13 runs in the end.

Jasprit Bumrah is Mumbai Indians’ ‘Brahmastra’: Virender Sehwag

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag called Jasprit Bumrah as Mumbai Indians’ Brahmastra. Brahmastra is a deadly weapon that has mentions in Indian mythology.

“He (Bumrah) is Mumbai Indians’ ‘Brahmastra’; as long as they have the ‘Brahmastra’, they are ‘Ajay’ (unbeatable),” said Virender Sehwag.

Sehwag also said the Mumbai Indians are the best team in the tournament since they can defend low totals and chase down high totals.

“This is why we say Mumbai Indians are the best team of this tournament; that is because they can defend low totals and also chase down high targets. In the bowling department, they have Boult, Bumrah, Rahul Chahar and all three did their job very efficiently,” Virender Sehwag further added.

Talking about the Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match of IPL 2021, Sehwag pointed out Mumbai Indians’ effective bowling plans in the game.

“When Jonny Bairstow hit plenty from Krunal Pandya’s two overs, that is why [Kieron] Pollard was brought on. They thought the way Vijay Shankar bowled, even Pollard could be useful the same way.

“That’s when I thought that we might get to see Hardik Pandya bowl as well. He is good at bowling the slower balls. His pace has decreased due to back problems and doesn’t bowl as fast as he used to but he’s good at changing the pace of the ball,” Virender Sehwag further said.

Mumbai Indians earlier defended a total of 152 in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Bumrah bowled 4 overs in that match and gave only 28 runs while taking 1 wicket. Along with Bumrah, Trent Boult, Krunal Pandya, and Rahul Chahar have also bowled effectively in the tournament so far.

Mumbai Indians have won two matches and lost one so far and hold the top spot in the IPL 2021 points table. They will face Delhi Capitals in their next game on April 20.
