IPL 2021 started Friday (9th April) night which was a last-ball thriller match between the five-time IPL winners and the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and the three-time runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chennai. Ultimately, RCB won that match by two wickets.

After RCB captain Virat Kohli sent the last two-time IPL winners to bat first, Mumbai Indians scored 159/9 (20 overs) in the first innings. Later, RCB chased down that target on the final ball of the match after losing eight wickets.

It was the first-ever five-wicket haul for a bowler against Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma was the previous record holder in the best bowling figures against Mumbai Indians. Serving for now-defunct Deccan Chargers, Rohit managed bowling figures of 2-0-6-4 against MI at Centurion on 6th May 2009.
