RCB’s director of operations, Mike Hesson has revealed the ideas behind bringing Glenn Maxwell into the team and how it has impacted the team’s performances. Maxwell did not have the best of outings in the previous season for the Kings XI Punjab and still, he was bought for huge bucks in the 2014 auction. He was bought for a whopping sum of 14.25 crores by the RCB franchise.
However, the price tag worked in favour of Glenn Maxwell this time and he has been very consistent this season scoring 198 runs in four innings at an average of 49.50.
He has also chipped in with some useful off-spin and has been a revelation once he has come into the team. His impact can be seen in the RCB franchise and they won their first three IPL games in history for the first time.
Glenn Maxwell Fits In RCB’s Style Of Play Reckons Mike Hesson
Mike Hesson said that the RCB team needed a player who can attack in the middle overs and also can contribute with the ball and in the field. Maxwell was the best choice they had and RCB went all out for him in the auction. He added that Maxwell fits into the playing group perfectly and it indeed has been a great choice so far in the tournament.
“We look at a style of play in terms of how we want to play as a team and how potential players fulfil those roles so the ability of Glenn Maxwell to attack in middle overs is something that we needed to add to our playing group.
“And, also the fact that we get another bowling option with him being able to bowl an odd over or two here and there. So we looked at that and it was a really nice fit,” Mike Hesson said.
Mike Hesson Hails Harshal Patel For His Uniqueness
Mike Hesson was quite impressed with what Harshal Patel brings to the team and he stated that Harshal Patel has a different skill set with the change of pace, yorkers while Saini and Siraj are good new ball bowlers with the raw pace. Saini has been inconsistent while Siraj has been one of the standout bowlers for RCB other than Harshal Patel.
“The fact that Harshal could bring something different to our bowling mix. We have got Saini and Siraj who are both excellent new-ball bowlers. Saini is very good through the middle.
“They have both got good pace. But Harshal has got a different skill set while bowling through the middle, the change of pace, the real consistency with yorkers, so those are things we saw in him.”
“We also saw an experienced player as somebody who could come in and the captain can back him under tight pressure situations. We know it doesn’t guarantee success all the time as it’s a tough job but that experience is valuable and it just adds to the likes of Siraj and Saini,” Hesson added.
Harshal Patel is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far with 15 wickets in five games.
