IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma Fined INR 12 Lakh For Maintaining Slow Over-Rate In The Match Against Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2021 match against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (April 20). The match was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was fined Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate. The CSK skipper was fined during their match against Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals won the match against Mumbai Indians after successfully chasing 138 batting second. Delhi Capitals reached the target in the 20th over and won the match by 6 wickets. Amit Mishra was adjudged player of the match for scalping 4 wickets.

The Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra took crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Kieron Pollard. After the defeat, Mumbai Indians moved to the 4th spot in the points table with 2 victories and 2 defeats in 4 games so far.

Rohit Sharma Fined Rs. 12 Lakh

After the match, an IPL media advisory revealed that Rohit Sharma has been fined for a slow over-rate during the match.

“Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL media advisory stated.

In the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians match, Rohit Sharma scored the highest 44 runs for Mumbai Indians. However, Mumbai Indians lost 6 wickets within 12 overs and could not score big in the match. Amit Mishra’s brilliant bowling broke the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ batting line-up.

Avesh Khan bagged two wickets, while Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, and Lalit Yadav picked 1 wicket each. Delhi Capitals restricted Mumbai Indians to just 137-9 in 20 overs.

While chasing, Shikhar Dhawan again played a fabulous role for Delhi Capitals. He scored 45 runs while batting as an opener. Steve Smith also contributed 33 runs. In the end, Delhi Capitals needed 5 runs off the final over and Shimron Hyetmer was able to get the winning runs for his team.

After the victory, Delhi Capitals moved to the 2nd spot with 3 wins in 4 matches. They follow Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are unbeaten in IPL 2021 so far in 3 matches. Delhi Capitals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match while Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Punjab Kings in their next encounter.
