Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell fared supremely well in his debut for the franchise in the IPL 2021 season opener against Mumbai Indians in Chennai. Glenn Maxwell bounced back from his horror IPL 2020 edition to craft an impactful knock in Royal Challengers’ narrow victory by two wickets. While the Royal Challengers Bangalore thanked Punjab Kings for releasing the 32-year old, the former got a fitting response.

Glenn Maxwell copped criticism for scoring only 108 runs in 13 matches without hitting a single six in IPL 2020 in the UAE. Maxwell’s being massively out of form meant that Kings XI Punjab had troubles finishing a few games and missing out on a playoffs spot. But the Victorian had still been in demand and franchises involved in a dogfight to secure Maxwell in the IPL 2021 auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the battle as they bought Glenn Maxwell for INR 14.25 crores. The right-handed batsman responded by scoring 39 off 28 balls, laced with three fours and two sixes. He shared a 52-run stand with captain Virat Kohli to keep the Royal Challengers on track for an easy victory. One of the most striking features of Maxwell’s knock was a 100-meter six that went almost out of Chepauk.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s official Twitter handle thanked Punjab Kings for releasing Glenn Maxwell, who hit a six in IPL for the first time since 2018. Punjab Kings hit back by expressing their gratefulness for having Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, and Mayank Agarwal – all of who used to play for the Royal Challengers at one point.
