Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad and former New Zealand cricket Simon Doull spoke in favour of mankading after Dwayne Bravo was seen backing up yards at non-striker’s end in the match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021.

During a replay video of Rajasthan Royals’ bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s no ball in the match, Chennai Super Kings’ player Bravo was seen too many steps ahead of the bowling crease even before Rahman delivered the ball.

While Venkatesh Prasad posted a tweet justifying mankading in cricket, Simon Doull spoke in the favour of mankading while commentating. ‘Mankading’ or ‘running out a non-striker’ has been observed as something against the spirit of the game of cricket by many. However, it is a permitted way to dismiss a non-striker according to cricket rules.

Calling Mankading Against Spirit Of The Game Is Joke: Venkatesh Prasad

After witnessing Dwayne Bravo backing up yards during Mustifizur’s bowling, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad tweeted that calling mankading against the spirit of the game is a joke.

“The bowler overstepping by a few inches is penalised, but a batsman backing up a few yards isn’t. The bowler has every right to run out a batsman backing up so far. PERIOD. Calling it against the spirit of the game is a joke,” Venkatesh Prasad wrote in his tweet while tagging ICC.

Simon Doull, who was commentating on air when the incident happened, said that the picture is a great example of why Bravo should be run out.

“That picture we just showed where Bravo was so far out of his crease … is a great example of why he should be run out. The bowler is minimally over, yet he gets punished (with a no-ball),” Simon Doull said on Star Sports.

The incident happened during the 20th over of the first innings when Dwayne Bravo was batting with Shardul Thakur. Dwayne Bravo was eager to take the strike in a motive to hit maximum runs off the final over bowled by Mustafizur Rahman. Bravo’s act of backing up yards was caught on camera when Rahman’s no ball was shown in the replays.
