The big man from West Indies, Chris Gayle, who played an important knock against Mumbai Indians in match 17 of IPL 2021, was delighted to end up on the winning side after losing three games on the trot. KL Rahul used his bowling resources very wisely to restrict Mumbai Indians to 131 on a touch batting track in Chennai. Rohit Sharma scored a valiant half-century while the other batsmen felt very hard to get going.
Punjab mastered the tricky chase with some sublime start from the openers Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. The top three chipped in for PBKS with Gayle and Rahul staying not out at 60 and 25 respectively and in the end, Punjab cruised to victory with 14 balls left. The win pushed Punjab to 5th and bettered their net run rate in the process too.
Chris Gayle Relieved Of Win Against Mumbai
Chris Gayle said in a chat with Arshdeep Singh that he was quite happy with the way his team played and was relieved to win a game after losing three in a row. He was aware of the fact that Mumbai is a tough team and having played four games in Chennai gave them a better advantage which makes the win even more cheerful for him. Gayle’s temperament was excellent and he waited for the bad balls to come yesterday.
“I’m feeling relieved to be honest, we wanted this one badly. We knew playing against the defending champions is always going to be tough, they played 4 games here (in Chennai) already. To actually get this win is fantastic for the team and for the Universe Boss as well,” Chris Gayle told Arshdeep in a candid chat for iplt20.com.
Gayle Impressed With His Captain’s Innings
Chris Gayle was particularly appreciative of the way, KL Rahul played fantastic innings and how he carried the team over the line until the chase is over. He added that having Rahul at the crease eased the pressure on him and Mayank Agarwal’s innings set the platform.
“Our captain played a fantastic innings, we always said we need a set batter on this wicket. And to actually ease the pressure off him and to finish the game, I thought he did a brilliant job from a batting point of view. Mayank and the captain set the tone and made it a bit easier,” he added
Punjab will be up against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next fixture on Monday evening.
