IPL 2022: Odisha’s Subhranshu Senapati Gets Selection Trials Call Up From CSK

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the four-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have called up Odisha batter Subhranshu Senapati for selection trials ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The 24-year-old is in golden touch with the bat, scoring 275 runs from seven games in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, and is Odisha’s leading run-getter in the tournament.
Subhranshu came into the spotlight with a sparkling century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 against Andhra Pradesh at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. His ton helped Odisha put up 278/5 and then win the match by 63 runs. Before this knock, Senapati also scored the fifties against Vidarbha and Himachal Pradesh. Odisha is currently placed fourth in Elite Group A with three wins from five games.
“His recent performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has earned him a call up for the trials by the last edition winners – Chennai Super Kings,” said Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Sanjay Behera in a statement.
OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera, and other office-bearers of the Odisha Cricket Association wish Senapati for being called up for trials for CSK.
Subhranshu Senapati has been in very good form off late. Since his T20 debut for Odisha, he has racked up 637 runs at an average of 28.95 with three half-centuries to his name. In the previous edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Senapati had scored 138 runs from five matches at an average of 27.60 and a strike rate of 116.94 with one half-century.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Retained Four Players Ahead Of IPL 2022 Season
As for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who won their fourth IPL title in 2021, the franchise retained four players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was their first retention as the franchise shelled out INR 16 crores.
CSK’s second retention was their skipper, MS Dhoni, for INR 12 crores, their third retained player was England all-rounder Moeen Ali for INR 8 crores and the final retention was young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad for INR 6 crores.
The CSK team made a huge comeback in the IPL 2021, after failing to make it into the playoffs of the IPL 2020 edition, which was the first time CSK didn’t make it into the final four since IPL 2008.
