Gujarat Titans (GT) were decent at the auctions with the players they bought in for the season. They have a plethora of good players in the squad and have also announced a new captain, Shubman Gill. Gill will lead the Ahmedabad-based franchise this season and it will be his first experience as a captain in any form of the game. Gujarat Titans were the champions in the 2022 season and reached the finals in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings.

Gujarat Titans bought a good bunch of players in the IPL auctions. However, they missed out on a big bid for Mitchell Starc who was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping 24.75 crores. GT was in the game for Starc till 24.50 crores but was out after KKR’s final bid.

GT bought Australian seamer Spencer Johnson for 10 crores, and all-rounder Shahrukh Khan for 7.40 crores. They also got Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai for just 50 lacs and fast bowler Umesh Yadav for 5.80 crores.

The Ahmedabad-based franchise traded their previous skipper Hardik Pandya who won them the title in 2022 to Mumbai Indians ahead of the auctions. The decision was a surprise for many as Hardik Pandya had been one of their most consistent players and also was a successful captain for Gujarat Titans.

GT was using Shubman Gill as an impact player in most of the matches during the last season but since now he is going to lead the side, Gujarat Titans need to find a suitable player that can be used as an impact player in the IPL 2024. They have a lot of players in option to use as an impact player in the upcoming season. The impact player rule allows a team to have one on-field substitute between any natural breaks of the match.

IPL 2024: 3 Players That Gujarat Titans Can Use As Impact Players In The Tournament

1. Sai Sudharsan:

Sai Sudharsan was the first-ever impact substitute used by GT in the IPL 2023. He replaced Kane Williamson as an impact substitute during the first match of the 2023 season. He was GT’s third-highest run-getter in the 2023 season scoring 362 runs in just eight matches at an average of 51.71. Sai Sudharsan is not much of a use with the ball and hence he can be used as an impact player if Gujarat Titans are batting second in a match.

2. Rahul Tewatia:

Gujarat Titans already have a lot of spin-bowling options which include the Afghan duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed which means that Rahul Tewatia may not find a place in the team as a spinner. However, his finishing skills while batting down the order may find him a place in the XI through the impact player rule as he can be used as an impact player.

3. Mohit Sharma:

One of the highest wicket-takers in the IPL 2023, Mohit Sharma was the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2023 season of the IPL where he took 27 wickets at an average of 13.37. He was being used as a net bowler for GT but was promoted as a player after Hardik Pandya missed a few matches. Mohit Sharma can be a good pick as an impact player given his contribution with the bat is not much and he is someone who can take a lot of wickets in the middle overs.
