Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has named a surprise pick to be one of the costliest auction picks in the IPL 2024 auction. The auction for one of the most popular cricketing leagues, the Indian Premier League, is all set to take place on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. A total of 333 players from each corner of the world will go under the hammer and will aim to find buyers in the 17th auction of the cash-rich league.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, former Australian and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody has predicted that ace Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will be the most expensive player on the auction table. Starc last featured in IPL 2015 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and since then has been out of the tournament.

The lefty pacer was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2016 but he was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Since then, Starc has been out of action in the Indian Premier League. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Tom Moody said:
“Steve Smith will be unsold and Mitchell Starc will break the all-time record for IPL auctions which is currently held by Sam Curran for Rs 18.5 crore. I think he will go beyond that. Shahrukh Khan, I think, will be picked by CSK and it won’t be far from what he had been released for which was around Rs 9 crore.”
What is the remaining purse of each IPL franchise ahead of the 2024 auction?
Hardik Pandya has been the most talked about aspect ahead of the IPL 2024 auction after his record transfer from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians. Pandya, who came into the limelight due to the Mumbai Indians went to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and led his team to the title in the debut season. Pandya also led GT to IPL 2023 final but lost to MS Dhoni’s CSK.
