Fans on X reacted after Australia pacer Mitchell Starc became the most expensive buy in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm pacer was brought by two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the ongoing IPL 2024 auction.
The IPL 2024 auction at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai has already seen many staggering records getting shattered. Just a few minutes ago it was Pat Cummins who broke the record of the most expensive player in the history of the league and now the record has been shattered again.
Pat Cummins‘ Australian teammate, Mitchell Starc is now the most expensive player in the history of the IPL. He was acquired by a whopping amount of INR 24.75 crore in the ongoing auction by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), surpassing Cummins’ record of INR 20.5 crore.
Mitchell Starc, who had set himself a base price of INR 2 crore, first made Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals go neck to neck after him. The two teams were involved in a bidding war for 9.6 crores before Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) took the onus.
KKR and GT were engaged in a high-intensity bidding war and went neck to neck with each other. They both went berserk till 20 crores and after that discussions took place. The two teams continued bidding before KKR made history by acquiring a fast bowler’s service at INR 24.75 crore.
Mitchell Starc has played in IPL earlier for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but missed many seasons to keep himself fresh for the national side. However, this time around, he registered himself and it was only a matter when he broke the record.
Mitchell Starc has played 27 games in the IPL and has taken 34 wickets at an economy and average of 7.17 and 20.38. The pacer has the best of 4/15 in the league and would be hoping to make a big impact this time around.
