IPL 2024: England stars betray franchises again as ECB confirms players' unavailability for IPL playoffs

England players who are currently part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will be missing the playoffs of the tournament. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released the official statement on Tuesday (30th April) about the same.
This is because the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants all the players to be available for the T20I series against Pakistan, which will also serve as a preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in the United States of America and Caribbean from 1st June.
This will come as a massive blow for the Indian Premier League franchises because England players have been in the red hot form in the tournament. With Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders almost certain to book a place in playoffs, they are likely to be affected a lot by the development.
Both Jos Buttler, who is part of the Rajasthan Royals, and Phil Salt, who is part of Kolkata Knight Riders have played massive roles for their respective franchises in the IPL 2024. Both the openers have been one of the main reasons behind the dominance of their teams.
Releasing the official statement about the same, the England and Wales Cricket Board stated: "Selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League, will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on Wednesday 22 May 2024."
This comes after England National Cricket Team announced their 15-member strong for the T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from Jos Buttler and Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Reece Topley, who are part of the IPL will be representing England in the mega event.
England will be playing with the squad of the T20 World Cup 2024 for the four-match T20I series against Pakistan. The series will kick start on 22nd May and will conclude on 30th May, a day ahead of the tournament. England will be opening their campaign against Scotland on 4th June in the event.
The England squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 has seen the return of Jofra Archer. The fast bowler missed a lot of action due to his elbow injury but now has gained his full fitness. They also have named uncapped spinner Tom Hartley, who was sensational with the ball during the Test series against India recently.
