Former India batsman and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor, Gautam Gambhir will not be leaving his current position at the Lucknow-based franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will not join any other team. The player will be focusing on his political career since the Lok Sabha Election in 2024 is approaching.

Recently, there were rumors that Gautam Gambhir will join his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming season after leaving Lucknow.

However, according to a report by News18 CricketNext, the former KKR former player is looking forward to being more politically available since a crucial election year is coming, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from East Delhi will be the frontrunner to campaign at his constituency.

A source close to Gautam Gambhir confirmed to News18 CricketNext that he will be taking a break from IPL to focus on politics and not moving to any other team rather or leaving his current mentorship role at LSG. The source also said that he will be burning his energy on politics in the upcoming days.

“Yes, Gautam Gambhir is likely to just take a break for the next IPL to political commitments. He is not moving to a different team or leaving franchises. There will be a lot of political work involved in the build-up to the Lok Sabha elections, so he wants to focus all his energies towards that,” the source told.

He is a big face for BJP in Delhi: the source on Gautam Gambhir

The source close to News18 said that he will be active in his political career and will use his popularity in Delhi and elsewhere, for which he won’t be able to give time to Lucknow Super Giants.

“Gautam is a big face for BJP in Delhi and elsewhere also his popularity is right up there. So he will be actively involved in election work next year and will not have enough time for the IPL,” the source added.

In the 16th edition of the IPL, Gautam Gambhir was involved in a verbal spat with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star player, Virat Kohli after a match between the two giants in IPL 2023. Later, IPL authorities fined both Virat and Gautam for their unwanted altercation during the match.
