The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise is likely to release England all-rounder Ben Stokes ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2024 mini-auction. According to the latest reports, the franchise will make the final decision on Ben Stokes after consulting with skipper MS Dhoni.
The Chennai Super Kings are reportedly considering releasing Ben Stokes ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, as he is set to undergo knee surgery with a two-month recovery period. A CSK official mentioned that they will release Stokes if he is unavailable for the season.
“We would not consider releasing Stokes if he could be available because he is a big match player, and we hold him in the highest regard. But if he can’t make it to the season, we will have blocked Rs 16 crore with which we could acquire some quality players,” said a CSK official, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Sportstar stated that sources within the team have clarified that the decision on releasing Stokes ahead of the auction will be made by Dhoni after November 20. A meeting between Dhoni, the owners, and top management is set to take place to discuss the matter.
The report further added that the CSK management has engaged in discussions with Ben Stokes’ manager regarding his availability for the next IPL season. However, it remains uncertain whether Stokes will be available for the entire season of the cash-rich league.
