IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians' Recent Post Adds Fire To Rift Rumors Between Rohit Sharma And Franchise

Rumors of a rift between Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians have been constantly roaming since Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans and later his appointment as the captain of the side. Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles and also is the second most successful captain in the history of the tournament after MS Dhoni.
A recent social media post by the Mumbai Indians has added more fire to the rumors. As the BCCI announced the squad for the five-match Test series against England, MI shared a post for the same on their ‘X’ handle.
However, the post featured KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah whereas Rohit Sharma was nowhere in the poster. Rohit is the captain of the Indian cricket team and morally his glimpse should have been there in the post. The MI fans were also stunned by the move and are alleging politics in the franchise.

Where's the "One Family"? Is there a plan by Mumbai Indians to potentially drop Rohit Sharma from the squad next year? It's puzzling to see the Indian captain and their own successful leader excluded from posters.

The image of the Indian Captain, who also happens to be the only captain to ever win an IPL title for MI, is not on the poster? Seriously?— Sudharshan R (@rsudharshan95) January 13, 2024

What a pathetic franchise you are. Where's Rohit in your poster? He's the national captain. Worst franchise. Better he plays for a different team this IPL. Trade ON

Something fishy— @vipin mishra 🇮🇳 (@viplnt) January 13, 2024
Rohit Sharma is an eminent part of the Indian cricket team and his term as the Indian captain has been wonderful. Under Rohit’s captaincy, India have played well in the bilateral as always whereas Rohit has also led the team to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup.
However, the ICC title is away from the hands of Rohit Sharma and he will want to end this hunt by winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit stayed away from the T20Is after the disappointing loss against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final.
Since then India played with the shortest international format with a young team and was led by Hardik Pandya. Hardik showcased great results as the captain of the Indian team and won every series that India played under his leadership. Pandya also led the Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in the inaugural edition of the tournament whereas GT qualified for the final in the other season.
Hardik Pandya was expected to lead Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024 if Rohit Sharma stayed away from the tournament. However, it was Hardik’s injury in the ODI World Cup and then the return of Rohit in the T20Is has certainly made one thing clear Rohit will only lead Team India in the upcoming ICC tournament.
Hardik Pandya is seen as the successor of Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian team. Sharma was expected to leave captaincy after the ODI World Cup, but BCCI has kept faith in him and he shall be leading the Indian team for another few years.
India will be playing an important Test series against England which is starting from January 25. This series is part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and is also important for the Indian team to make another place in the World Test Championship final.
