Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has rejoined the Punjab Kings this time as head of cricket development. This is his second stint with the franchise. He worked as the assistant coach in 2014 and as head coach in the 2016 seasons with the franchise. This time, Bangar will work under Punjab head coach Trevor Bayliss.
After joining the Punjab Kings in a brand new position Bangar seems to be happy with the retentions ahead of IPL 2024. The Kings retained 19 players, including Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada, showing faith in their overseas players. The side has released just five players which shows that this time around they have been able to strengthen their side.
Privilege To Be With Punjab Kings Again: Sanjay Bangar
Sanjay Bangar is happy to return to the Punjab Kings and is hoping to help them win their maiden IPL title. They came close in 2014 under his guidance but lost the final to KKR.
“It’s my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. We have a good core of players, as evidenced by the fact that we have the lowest number of player releases this year. The challenge is to give the squad the best support possible during and after the season to make the team stronger and deliver success,” Bangar said in a statement.
Punjab Kings CEO Satis Menon welcomed him back and also showed his faith in the former India allrounder’s rich coaching experience.
“Sanjay is an experienced coach and has great credentials. Over the season and beyond, we will leverage his ability to build relationships across the squad” Menon said.
