IPL 2024: "Riyan Parag's Form Stands Out", Former India Cricketer Backs The Assam Captain To Lit Up The IPL This Year

Riyan Parag is having a sensational season in the domestic circuit and he can expect his share of opportunities in the IPL as he will be playing for Rajasthan Royals. He has not been able to prove his potential in the IPL and it is one of the reasons that he has not received his national team call yet. Riyan Parag smashed 155 off 87 deliveries in Assam’s first game against Chattisgarh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. His innings included 11 fours and 12 sixes.

Riyan Parag is the captain of the Assam side in the domestic circuit and has been one of the most prolific performers in the domestic season. He was the highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 which is India’s domestic T20 tournament. Parag amassed 510 runs in 10 innings at a massive average of 85 in the competition. He smashed seven half-centuries in the competition and took his team to the tournament’s semi-finals.

Recently, former India opener Aakash Chopra has praised Riyan Parag’s form and he hopes that Rajasthan Royals (RR) give him enough opportunities to capitalize on and make his mark. Riyan Parag did not have an auspicious run in the past few seasons of the tournament and Rajasthan Royals has again retained his services for the IPL 2024 showing faith in the youngster’s ability.

Riyan Parag Can Be Promoted Up The Order In The IPL

Riyan Parag’s notable performances in the domestic circuit came while batting in the middle order at No.4 whereas he bats at No.6 generally. With his performances coming in the domestic circuit at No.4, there are chances that Rajasthan Royals might promote him up the order. Parag has been tried at the No.4 position just twice in his IPL career. He has played at every position from No.4 to No.7 in the IPL but most of his innings came at No.6 where he has smashed both of his half-centuries in IPL.

Riyan Parag has impressed everyone with his performances in the domestic circuit and he will hopefully carry his form in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2023 was not the best season for him as he could manage only 78 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 118.18 and an average of a mere 13.

Rajasthan Royals has bought the likes of Shubham Dubey, Dhruv Jurel and Rovman Powell which means that they have strengthened their middle order. Riyan Parag can only hope to get a good share of opportunities so that he can prove his worth in the squad.
