On Friday, December 8, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise announced the appointment of Sanjay Bangar as the new Head of Cricket Development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
This is a homecoming for Sanjay Bangar, who started off his IPL coaching career with the Punjab-based franchise. In 2014, he joined the franchise as an assistant coach and was promoted to the head coach role in the same season.
Under his guidance, the team did a great job and reached the final of the IPL, before losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the summit clash. He stayed with the Punjab-based franchise for three years, before stepping down due to BCCI’s conflict of interest rules.
Later he served as the batting coach of India National Cricket Team, before joining Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a consultant and then as a head coach. RCB parted ways with Sanjay Bangar ahead of the IPL 2024 season and now Punjab Kings (PBKS) have roped in his services.
