The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are two of the best cricketing leagues in the world and a lot of renowned foreign players participate in the competition. The worth of both the cricketing leagues is increasing every year and there is a lot of entertainment that takes place every year. However, at one end IPL started in the year 2008 whereas PSL started in the year 2016.

In the Indian Premier League, every year an auction is conducted wherein a lot of famous names from all around the world go under the hammer. On the other hand, in the Pakistan Super League, there is a draft system wherein the players are categorized under the Platinum, Gold, and Silver categories.

As far as the IPL is concerned it has a lot of big names as their global companies as their sponsors and the franchises provide huge salaries to their players. On the other hand, the PSL works on a smaller scale and the salaries of the players are also limited.

IPL 2024: Wasim Akram’s huge admission on the Pakistan Super League

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram while speaking to Sportskeeda admitted that IPL is bigger than PSL whereas, the PSL is a mini-IPL for Pakistan. Wasim Akram said, “I have worked in both; you cannot compare the two tournaments. IPL is huge and the PSL is huge in Pakistan as well, no doubt, it is like the mini-IPL of Pakistan.”

Wasim Akram has been a part of the Indian Premier League and has worked as a bowling consultant for the Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other hand, Akram has also worked as the president of the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League.

There is also a lot of instability in the Pakistan Super League as the Pakistan Cricket Board was not able to start the bidding process for the upcoming edition of the tournament. This was due to the ban imposed by Pakistan’s temporary government.

There are also a lot of security concerns in Pakistan due to which very less players from the world come and participate in the league.

On the other hand, IPL’s brand value is huge and channels are ready to spend millions to acquire the broadcast rights of the cash-rich league. Also, it is like a festival in India and the cricket stadiums are full of spectators.

Also in the recent edition of the IPL 2024 auction, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was sold for INR 24.75 crore. This is basically equal to the brand value of the Pakistan Super League.

During the PSL, many international series also take place due to which players are not able to take part in the tournament whereas during the IPL there are hardly any international bilateral series going on.

The next edition of the Indian Premier League will start at the end of March 2024 and will go on till May. Chennai Super Kings are the reigning champions of the cash-rich league and will want to defend the title to become the most successful team in the tournament.
