The rivalry between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings has been one of the greatest in the history of the Indian Premier League. Both the franchises boast of star-studded squads in each edition of the tournament. Both the teams have provided platforms for top international stars to taste IPL success.

Both RCB and Chennai Super Kings have a massive fan base worldwide who are deeply loyal to their favorite teams. However, there is an element which sets the two teams in contrast to each other. While CSK has won the IPL title five times (the joint-most along with Mumbai Indians), RCB is yet to lift a trophy.

Hundreds of players have been featured in the last 17 seasons of the IPL, contributing to the tournament's success. This article looks at the top five cricketers who have played for RCB and CSK.

1. Faf du Plessis

CSK (2012-15, 2018-21)

Faf du Plessis served CSK in two spells. He donned yellow from 2012 to 2015 and returned to Chepauk in 2018. He remained with the team till 2021. The South African batter amassed over 2,700 runs in his seven seasons in Chennai.

RCB (2022-24)

The Protea then was acquired by RCB for 7 crore in 2022. He was given the charge of leading the team. Under Faf’s captaincy, RCB made it to the playoffs twice. He also shone as a batter and led from the front, scoring over 450 runs in the three editions. He notched up 730 runs in IPL 2023. Due to his blistering performances at RCB, fans did not shy away from putting their money on him. Cricket enthusiasts loved to explore IPL betting for real money with 10CRIC.

2. Moeen Ali

RCB (2018-20)
Moeen Ali’s moments in RCB spanned two years, from 2028 to 2020. The English all-rounder was not in the best of forms during his days in the RCB and featured in the Playing XI only on a few occasions.

CSK (2021-24)

Ali’s form took a turn for good after CSK signed him up. In Chennai, he found stability and delivered consistency with both bat and ball.

In IPL 2021, Ali scored 357 runs and took six wickets in a single edition. His stay with the Yellow Army ended in 2024 as Kolkata Knight Riders signed him up for the 2025 edition.

3. Shane Watson

RCB (2016-17)

Shane Watson played for RCB for a couple of seasons, from 2016 to 2017, but things did not click for him. Over the two editions, the Aussie managed to score just 250 runs and take 25 wickets.

CSK (2018-20)

Watson moved from Bengaluru to Chennai in 2018 with a fresh approach and did well for the team. He accumulated 1,252 runs in three seasons with the Yellow Army. His ton in the 2018 final has been etched in the history books of IPL.

4. Shivam Dube

RCB (2019-20)

Shivam Dube was acquired by RCB at a whopping 5 crore for his hitting abilities. However, he failed to put up a show that was expected of him. He made just 169 runs in 15 matches across two editions. Things did not take off for him at RCB.

CSK (2022-Present)

Dube’s fortune transformed as he moved to CSK. He consistently contributed with his bat and played match-winning knocks. He smashed runs at a strike rate of over 150. He amassed 1,103 runs in 39 innings since he joined the team. His phenomenal performance also earned him his Indian cap. CSK has retained the youngster for a whopping 12 crore for IPL 2025.

5. Josh Hazlewood

CSK (2020-21)

Josh Hazlewood is a rare player who has had a better stint with RCB than CSK. He made his IPL debut in 2020 with CSK but failed to make a mark with just 12 wickets in two editions.

RCB (2022-Present)

At RCB, the Aussie pacer became a formidable force, scalping 23 wickets across two seasons. He missed the IPL 2024 due to injury and will be looking to have a good tournament in the upcoming edition.
