Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif had lashed out at the media for asking questions to new Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar in English. He said that there was a communication gap and the batter should've been asked questions in Hindi.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) recently made a big announcement on their skipper for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajat Patidar was announced as the new captain of the team, replacing Faf du Plessis, who was captain of the team last year.

Rajat Patidar was appointed as the captain of RCB

Rajat Patidar was preferred ahead of some other Indian players, including Virat Kohli. The young batter has been leading Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit as well and has been leading from the front. RCB would be hoping that he replicates the same and help the team win.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) conducted a press conference to announce their new skipper. Rajat Patidar, along with the management of the franchise, addressed the media and answered all the questions ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Patidar, however, couldn't give answers properly due to the language barrier. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper was asked questions in English, and although he answered everything, the communication gap was slightly visible.

If a person can't answer you in English, ask him in Hindi - Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif shared his take on Rajat Patidar being appointed as the new captain of RCB. He, however, didn't like the idea of media asking questions in English.

He said that the batter wasn't comfortable in English, and the media should've realized that, adding that one or two questions was enough for them to understand that he wasn't comfortable. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

"I want to say something. All of us are going through this phase. I think. There were questions in English at the press conference. I request the media to understand. If a person can't answer you in English, ask him in Hindi. You will have better communication. You will know what he is trying to say. You are in India, if you are from Bangalore, you work in media, people speak English there, I understand that. However, you asked a question in English. You didn't get a proper answer.

"You worked in the media for so many years. One or two questions are enough to know that he is not comfortable in English. He is not speaking the language properly. He is not able to communicate. I think the media is making a mistake, they are talking in English. One question, two questions, three questions, after six or seven questions, he is not able to answer properly."

I think there will be a communication gap - Mohammad Kaif on Rajat Patidar

Mohammad Kaif further talked about the same, pointing out that there will be a communication gap always. He stressed that Rajat Patidar should address the media, saying that he would answer in Hindi. Kaif elaborated:

"We are from UP, MP, English is not our first language. We mostly speak Hindi. I think there will be a communication gap. We have to understand. If a person is not able to speak properly, you can ask him in his own language. Or you can tell him that in start that we will question in English.

"And You can answer in the language you are comfortable with. You should tell the media like this. They will learn English. It will take them three to four years to learn English. They will learn English. They will speak better English."
