Arun Dhumal, along with Avishek Dalmiya, will be re-elected as the members of the IPL Governing Council (GC). As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that both of the officials are expected to be elected unopposed as there are no other nominations against them.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to take place on Sunday (29th September) in Bengaluru. There are a few agendas to be discussed, and Item B of the agenda states: "Election and induction of 2 (two) representatives of the General Body in the Governing Council of the IPL."
As per the constitutional requirement, both Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya filed their nominations for the same. Both will be retaining their positions and will continue in their respective roles. This means Dhumal will continue as the chairman of the IPL for at least another year.
The reports claimed that ahead of the AGM of the BCCI, the IPL governing council will be discussing this matter. They will also be addressing key issues such as player retention and the salary cap ahead of the mega auction, which is expected to take place in November this year.
The BCCI is also likely to announce the retention rules anytime soon. There have been reports that claimed that IPL franchises will be allowed 5 retentions along with one RTM card as well. They also will be given a purse 115-120 crores.
Chamundeswaranath also to be reappointed as a representative from the Indian Cricketers' Association in the IPL governing council
Item C of the AGM's agenda is also related to the IPL governing council. It relates to inducting a representative from the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA). In this section, the same person will continue. Chamundeswaranath, a former Andhra and South Zone cricketer, was renominated by the ICA. The development was confirmed by ICA Secretary Hitesh Muzumdar.
The appointment of the BCCI representative to the ICC will also be one of the agendas for the AGM. This falls in Item Q, which relates: "To appoint the BCCI's Representative or Representatives on the International Cricket Council (ICC) and or similar organisation."
Currently, Jay Shah is the representative of the world body. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will need a new person role as Shah is set to become the Independent Chairman of the ICC. The reports claimed that may select two representatives.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India also will be looking to bring in a new secretary after Jay Shah. But the matter won't be part of this AGM. The governing body will be conducting a Special General Meeting (SGM) once Shah steps down.
The Special General Meeting is likely to take place in November. The governing body will have 45 days to elect a new secretary, meaning the office-bearer is expected to be chosen around January 15. Jay Shah, on the other hand, will be taking over as the chairman of ICC on 1st December.
