Two sets of marquee players for the IPL 2025 auction:
With just over a week remaining before the IPL 2025 auction gets underway, Cricbuzz has reported that the BCCI has informed the franchises that there will be two sets of marquee players in the auction. The board has told the franchises that each set will have 8-9 players.
In the previous mega auction in 2022, there was only one set of marquee players. However, in the 2018 and 2014 auctions, there were two sets.
The report further stated that the players who are expected to be included in the top two sets are Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler among others.
The franchises are likely to spend the majority of their remaining purse in buying the players from the marquee sets. Each marquee player has registered himself at a base price of INR 2 crore. The report stated that by the end of the first two sets, 30 to 50 percent of the available auction purse would have been spent.
