Delhi Capitals (DC) batter KL Rahul is all set to miss the team's opening game of the IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the right-hander will miss the match due to family reasons.

Delhi Capitals are all set to open their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (24th March). The match is set to take place at the second home ground of the Axar Patel-led side at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty are expecting the birth of their first child and, as per the reports, the batter has got special permission from the Delhi Capitals management to skip the match against his former franchise. The right-hander had joined the team but had to rush back.

Rahul reportedely rushed back home to Mumbai on Sunday night after he learned that his wife could give birth to a baby at any time. The batter now will be available for the next game of Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 30.

The development was confirmed to Cricbuzz by one of the family friends of KL Rahul. He said that the baby is expected at any time, and hence, the batter had to rush back home. He said:

"He has returned home to be with his wife, as the baby is expected any time. However, he is certain to be available for the team's next game."

KL Rahul has been in the sensational form of late and him missing the first game for Delhi Capitals will be a blow for the franchise. The batter played vital for India National Cricket Team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, batting down the order.

Ahead of the IPL, Rahul trained with India's assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai. There were a few reports earlier that claimed that the right-hander would be batting in the middle order for Delhi Capitals as the management needs experience in the middle.

Rahul, since the last three games was part of Lucknow Super Giants. The batter captained the team before he decided to part ways with the franchise after he had some heated conversations with owner Sanjjv Goenka.

Rahul was brought by Delhi management for INR 14 crore in the mega auction. The batter recently expressed his desire to make a comeback in the Indian T20I Team, and hence, the ongoing IPL 2025 will be extremely crucial for him. It remains to be seen who will play in his place for first game.
