Star England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the second consecutive year. The England batter, who was set to play for Delhi Capitals, made his decision to miss the Indian Premier League 2025 following a disappointing ICC Champions Trophy campaign.
The 26-year-old played in the Indian Premier League in 2023 for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) after being bought for ₹13.25 crore. He underperformed during the season, scoring 190 runs from 11 matches. However, he scored a brilliant 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Harry Brook Might Be Banned From IPL for Two Years
Delhi Capitals signed Harry Brook for ₹6.25 crore during the IPL mega auction in November. The Delhi-based franchise had also acquired him for IPL 2024, but he pulled out of the tournament and did not travel to India. Brook missed the IPL 2024 season following the passing of his grandmother.
Brook might be banned from the tournament for two years under a new rule introduced before the IPL 2025 mega auction. The rule was introduced after all 10 franchises raised concerns about overseas players pulling out at the last minute. However, injury or medical reasons could be exceptions.
I Have Made the Very Difficult Decision - Harry Brook
Harry Brook apologized to Delhi Capitals and their fans for withdrawing from IPL 2025. In a message on X, Brook called it a difficult decision. The right-handed batter stated that he wants to prioritize national duties and take a break to recharge before the upcoming English summer.
"I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL," Brook wrote on X. "I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.
"I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy I have dreamt of playing for my country and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level.
"With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date."

I Know Not Everyone Will Understand - Harry Brook
The 26-year-old stated that not everyone will agree with his decision to withdraw from IPL 2025. Brook also expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has received and the support from fans.
"I know not everyone will understand, and I don't expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right, and playing for my country remains my priority and focus. I remain hugely grateful for the opportunities I have been given and the support I receive," he concluded.
The Indian Premier League 2025 is set to begin on March 22. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens in the opening match.
Delhi Capitals will play their first game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24 in Visakhapatnam. The franchise now needs to find a replacement for Brook and has yet to announce their captain for the season.
